On Thursday, January 24th, GW School of Business and Gallup will host a Community Presentation to launch the inaugural year of Lemonade Day-DC. Join us in this celebration of entrepreneurship and youth education, hear from keynote speakers and special guests, and learn how you can contribute to the success of this groundbreaking program.

Lemonade Day is bringing DC's business community, academia, and political leaders together in effort to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs in our nation's capital. Doors will open at 6:30 pm for cocktails and hors d'oevres.

About Lemonade Day-DC:

Lemonade Day is a free, fun educational program designed to introduce young people to the basics of entrepreneurship by having them start, own and operate their own business—a lemonade stand. Created by Prepared 4 Life, a Texas-based non-profit organization, the program was launched in Houston in 2007. Since then, it has spread to more than 30 cities across the United States and Canada, and participation has grown from 2,700 kids to 120,000 in just four years.

The foremost objective of Lemonade Day is to empower youth to take ownership of their lives and become productive members of society—the business leaders, social advocates, volunteers, and forward-thinking citizens of tomorrow.

This year, Lemonade Day is coming to our nation’s capital, courtesy of the George Washington University School of Business. Inspired by a group of GWSB students working to bring Lemonade Day to Washington, DC, the Office of Undergraduate Programs has incorporated the program into the School’s curriculum as part of its First Year Development Program. GWSB students will earn course credit for implementing the program and teaching local youth about entrepreneurship.

The “learn-as-we-serve/teach” program will begin this spring, with the goal of engaging and empowering 5,000 4th- through 7th-graders throughout Washington, DC. GWSB’s First Year Development Program has committed more than 400 students and 4,000 hours of community service to the effort. The program consists of two components: a month-long learning experience designed to teach children the basics about starting and running a business, followed by the actual implementation of the business.
